10 Things Dogs Love to Eat

Maybe you and your family are new to the world of proud and loving dog owners. Perhaps you have had dogs before or even your current dog for awhile now, but are looking for something different to offer them as a treat.

Maybe they do not like the treats you currently supply. Or, maybe you are just looking for a change. While it is never a great idea to change your dog’s actual food without good reason and proper preparation, the same does not hold true for doggy treats. If you are looking for new treats to offer your four-legged pal, read on, as we go over some of dogs’ favorites treats to eat.

From soft and hard, meat flavored and dental chews, there are all sorts of things we can feed our dogs, but what do they love to eat? A lot of this is determined by your particular dog—not necessarily the breed, but the individual dog will have its own likes and dislikes, just like they have there own personality. The determination of what kinds of things you dog loves to eat are also based in part on what you gave them as a puppy.

One of the top selling dog treats out there are Milk Bone brand, although you can find similar, off-brand products. They are a hard bone, usually all one color or sold in assortments of a variety of colors and flavors. You might try these and find that your dog only prefers certain flavors. Next, we can look at another type of hard chewing treat. The long lasting bones meant for a dog to chew on over time. Rawhide are perhaps the most common and least expensive, but they have been known to break apart and cause digestive issues once ingested. They also don’t last very long with medium or larger dogs. Try investing in a meat flavored bones. You could also try Nylabone style bones, but might be disappointed by the little bits that break off and always end up in your feet. Another chew treat would be pigs ears or cow hooves.

I have seen dogs who have never had one before go bananas just over the smell when you bring them into the house. The ears don’t last so long, but hooves usually last for at least several days. Nowadays, they have sprays and spreads with different flavors that you can put on a chew toy or another kind of treat for your dogs. These might be liver, peanut butter, or even cheese flavored—there are all sorts. Dogs will love to eat and lick at these sprays and spreads until it is all gone. For soft treats, consider the meat flavored ones—those that are shaped like hot dogs, sausages, or bacon. Most dogs will tear into these.

You will find some times that your dogs don’t like specific treats to eat, though. The larger pet stores and some online vendors have assortments you can buy to see what you dog likes best.
